Mother Earth (also Mother Nature) – This universal personification refers to the planet Earth as a goddess protecting the nature. Of all gods and goddesses, she is considered one of the most ancient, having a role in human society since the prehistoric times. The goddess Gaia of ancient Greek Mythology is one such example.
This concept of Earth goddess also exists in Southeast Asian countries due to the predominant agricultural way of living. For instance, ‘Mae Phra Toranee’ of Thailand shares similar features. Nowadays, the concept of Mother Earth has been incorporated into the notion of environmental conservation, raising the awareness toward her significance.
