The AEP Curriculum
AEP classes are small, typically with eight to twelve students, and a
maximum of 16. Each term is six weeks long, and classes are held every
Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., for a total of 120 hours per term.
The curriculum uses the Quest series of course books, which develop
individual language skills and critical thinking strategies. Topics provide
the framework for learning, such as history of art, economics,
anthropology, psychology and health.
There are six levels of study. Reading & Writing classes focus on the
skills learners need to become fluent and accurate readers and writers for
an academic setting. Listening & Speaking classes focus on developing
effective academic listening and note-taking skills, as well as speaking
skills to meaningfully interact with professors and fellow students. In
addition, the AEP program provides thorough preparation in the kinds of
academic language skills needed for success on the TOEFL iBT.
